Superabsorbents BY Evonik

Small but powerful

Baby diapers are high-tech products. That’s because of the things they are made of. One important component of today’s diapers are absorbent polymers. Superabsorbents can absorb and hold up to 500 times their own weight in liquids.

Superabsorbent polymers are a product of Evonik technology: The absorbent ingredients that soak up and store liquids are FAVOR® polymers. When they come into contact with liquid, these powdery polymers swell up and form a gel that traps fluid and won’t release it, even under pressure.

FAVOR® superabsorbents are also being increasingly used in other areas, for example adult hygiene products. There, as with baby diapers, the superabsorbent polymers are integrated into cellulose composites that can be used to design innovative solutions for modern and effective incontinence products.

We belong to the leaders in the global marketplace. Still, we’re not content to rest on our achievements. We are constantly working to improve our service and the safety of our products. We also continue to further develop our FAVOR® polymers, and have been successful in improving their ability to absorb and store liquid. This has made it possible to decrease the size of hygiene articles, resulting in improved comfort, lower transportation costs, less packaging and reduced waste.

Our superabsorbents are produced at sites in Krefeld and Rheinmünster (Germany), Greensboro NC and Garyville LA (USA) as well as in Al Jubail (Saudi Arabia).
